---|
A special election will be held in the U.S. state of Minnesota on November 5, 2024, concurrently with the state general election, to elect a new member for District 45 in the Minnesota Senate. This was caused by the resignation of Democratic–Farmer–Labor (DFL) member Kelly Morrison, who is seeking election to the United States House of Representatives.
Background[edit]
On June 6, 2024, District 45 incumbent Kelly Morrison resigned her seat, citing full-time campaign for Minnesota's 3rd congressional district and her desire for the special election to her seat to be held during a general election.[1]
District 45 is located in southwestern Hennepin County, containing the municipalities around Lake Minnetonka.[2] In the last election in 2022, Morrison won with 56 percent of the vote.[3]
Candidates[edit]
The special candidate filing period is from June 10 to June 11, 2024.[4]
Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party[edit]
- Ann Johnson Stewart, former state senator from district 44[5]
Republican Party[edit]
Primary election[edit]
The primary election will be held, if necessary, on August 13, 2024.[6]
