Samanco is a Korean fish-shaped ice cream waffle, typically with a red bean paste foundation. Its main precursor, bungeoppang (carp bread, that fish being an auspicious symbol) was a pastry filled with sweet bean paste which dates back to Joseon Dynasty; it was served by street vendors even then. An emblematic summer fast food, and as of 2023 has achieved popularity in the West, where is colloquially known as ice cream fish.[1][2] It has long been popular in Japan as well.[3]
