The Yap Football team represents Yap at international competitions. It is controlled by the Yap Football Association.[1]
History[edit]
The Yap team made their competitive debut at the Micronesian Games in 1998, but they finished 5th, only beating Pohnpei 4-3, who lost all their other games. They participated in their 2nd Micronesian Games in 2014. Same as last time, they only won one game, finishing 3rd of 4 teams, before losing the bronze medal match to Chuuk. However, in their 3rd tournament, and the latest edition, they finished 2nd.[2] Despite winning the group stages, they lost in the final to Pohnpei 3-2. As of 2024, Yap is not part of FIFA, therefore ineligible to participate in the World Cup Qualification.
